CHURCH OF THE HOLY ROOD
On Sunday, 18th January, we were very honoured, on behalf of the Benefice, to host the Service of Licencing and Installation of our new Priest in Charge, The Revd. Matt White.
Many attended to witness the event. Close family and friends of Matt, representatives from across the Benefice and of course the clergy, led by The Rt. Revd Rachel Treweek, Bishop of Gloucester.
After two years of vacancy it was a very special occasion, one filled with excitement, expectation and hope for the future.
During the service, representatives from across the Benefice read the lessons and prayers. Some came forward to formally welcome Matt as our priest in charge, others presented the symbols of ministry to him, a particularity poignant and sacred moment. At the conclusion of the formalities, Matt was led to the west end of the church to toll the bell and then to open the church door, both symbolic acts, signalling the official start of his ministry in our benefice.
During the vacancy, the ministry of the church has continued and the Bishop paid tribute to that fact. She thanked everyone who had been involved.
Whilst that support will continue, we welcome Matt into our fold, to lead and inspire us, so that love and faith may grow across the Benefice and beyond.
The popping of corks heralded the end of the service, providing an opportunity to circulate and greet visitors and friends alike. A truly memorable occasion.
Welcome Matt and Niki!
