On Wednesday, 4th June, councillors participated in a ‘Town & Parish Council Summit’ organised by Cotswold District Council to learn about the status quo of Local Government Reorganisation (LGR), as part of Devolution in England. To read an update on the devolution process, please click HERE.
Cllr Mike Evemy, Leader, Cotswold District Council & David Stanley, Deputy Chief Executive &S151 Officer (CDC) introduced a broad structure of Local Government Reorganisation in Gloucestershire and presented a timeline of past, current and future events to give a picture of how the reorganisation is progressing. Currently, officials are considering various models of devolved Local Governments, based on counties/areas where devolution has occurred. In any case, adopted structures are bound to evolve to suit the need of local people.
We heard a talk by Matt Kirby, Deputy Chief Executive of Chippenham Town Council on their devolution journey. We heard about the challenges and opportunities they have experienced. To read an outline of his talk, please click HERE.
Councillors of small rural parishes like Daglingworth expressed concerns that our needs and opportunities may suffer in a more centralised governence structure. Of particular interest in this regard was the talk by Barbara Pond, Head of Operations and Sabrina Dixon, Community Development Officer, Gloucestershire Rural Community Council. Julia Judd, our Ermin Ward Councillor posted an excellent summary Facebook on “How Devolution Will Affect Town and Parish Councils”. To read it, please click HERE.
